May 2014
Beginnings: Founded by Jeremy Johnson, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Nadayar Enagesi, Brice Nkengsa, Ian Carnevale, and Christina Sass, Andela hired its first six engineers in Lagos.
June 2015
Series A Funding: Andela secured $10 million in Series A funding led by Spark Capital, expanded operations to Nairobi, Kenya, and began scaling across Africa.
May 2016
Andela raised $24 million in its Series B funding round led by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and launched its first all-female cohort in Kenya.
January 2017
Andela secured Series C funding, bringing total investment to over $80 million, expanded into its third African market in Kampala, Uganda, partnered with Google to launch the Andela Learning Community, and reached a milestone of 500 developers.
March 2018
Andela’s first two cohorts of engineers successfully completed the four-year program.
September 2019
Andela secured $100 million in Series D funding led by Generation Investment Management, including participation from Serena Williams’ Serena Ventures, bringing total funding to $180 million and expanding operations into Egypt.
February 2020
Andela transitioned to a fully remote, permanent operating model across the entire organization.
June 2021
Andela reached unicorn status after securing $200 million in Series E funding, valuing the company at $1.5 billion.
July 2022
Andela unveiled its new brand identity as part of its brand evolution.
August 2023
Andela acquired Casana, Codewars, and Qualified.io and launched the Andela Talent Cloud platform.
September 2024
As Andela celebrated a decade of impact connecting brilliance with opportunity, the company appointed Carrol Chang as its new CEO.
